Art Club - Theatre Project

Over three sessions the class designed and created their very own theatre sets.

The children were initially asked to come up with a story which could be real or imagined and draw a plan of their set design, props and characters. 

For the second week they painted the backdrops and we looked at different ways to create dramatic scenery and atmosphere. For the third week the class started creating their own characters. We used sticks and cardboard stands to create structure and support, exploring the best ways to make the characters stand up and stand out on stage. 

For the final week of the project the children added the finishing touches to their sets and then each put on a performance using my cardboard theatre (or the Mini Meavy Theatre as we named it) Some chose to act out their play whilst others talked us through their designs and characters. It was an absolute delight to see and hear about their truly individual creations.
